Introduction
In the name of god who gave life
به نام خداوند جان آفرین
The sage who placed words on the tongue
حکیم سخن در زبان آفرین
God who is generous and helpful
خداوند بخشنده دستیگیر
The munificent who forgives faults and accepts excuses
کریم خطابخش پوزش پذیر
The darling from whose door if anyone turned away
عزیزی هر که از سرش سربتافت هیچ عزت نیافت
he could find on honour at whatever door he tried
به هر در که شد
The heads of great and eminent kings,
سر پادشاهان گردنفراز
are in supplication on the ground at his threshold
به درگاه او بر زمین نیاز
he does not seize the disobedient at once,
نه گردنکشان را به گبرد به فور.
nor does he drive away the penitent in cruelty
نه عذر آوران را براند به جور
if he is enraged at deeds,
اگر خشم گیرد به کردار زشت
he overlooks the matter when you come back to him.
چو بازآمدی ماجرا درنوشت
If you dared to rush upon an oppressor ,
اگر برجفا پیشه بشتافتی
When would you have been safe against his enmity
کی از دست قهرش امان یافتی
If anyone picks a quarrel with his father,
اگر با پدر جنگ جوید کسی
He would doubtless suffer much from his rage.
پدر بی گمان خشم گیرد بسی
If a kith is not satisfied with his kin,
اگر خویش راضی نباشد ز خویش
He will be driven away like a stranger.
چو بیگانگانش براند ز پیش
If a slave shows no agility in his task,
اگر بنده چابک نباشد به کار
He will not be held dear by his master.
عزیزش ندارد خداوندگار.
If you are not affectionate with a friend,
اگر بر رفیقان نباشی شفیق
That friend will flee mils away from you
به فرسنگ بگریزد از تو رفیق
If a soldier abandons his service
,اگر ترک خدمت کند لشکری
The commander will surely despise him
.شود شاه لشکر کش از وی بری.
But god who rules all the ups and downs
,ولیکن خداوند بالا وپست
Does not refuse subsistence even to a rebel
. به عصیان در رزق بر کس نبست
بنی آدم
The children of humanity are each others limbs
That shares an origin in their creator
When one limb passes its days in pain
The other limbs can not remain easy
You who feel no pain at the suffering of others
It is not fitting you be called human
بنی آدم اعضای پیکرند
که در آفرینش ز یک گوهرند
چو عضوی به درد آورد روزگار
دگر عضوها را نماند قرار
تو کز محنت دیگران بی غمی
نشاید که نامت نهند آدمی
